Welcome to The Adult Gamer

I just wanted to take some time to welcome the new potential members. Here are some hints and tips on how to integrate with TAG, find some of the more useful areas/features and find the best methods to communicate and connect with fellow TAGers.

- The first thing you should do is connect with the forum that this topic is in. "Introduce Yourself" is more than just a place to post your introduction thread. It contains a bunch of Pinned (sticky) posts that can be invaluable in getting started. Take some time to go over these Pinned threads and familiarize yourself with the content therein.

- One of the main reasons for coming to TAG is to connect with fellow gamers. One of the best ways to do this is to be as vocal and visible as possible. Some primary ways of doing this are as follows:

  • Posting - Do not hesitate to post new threads about the topics you wish to talk about. Especially if you are looking for someone to game with. Also, check out the "What's Playing" thread to get involved with game nights. If you want to play a certain game, start a thread about it! Post that you want to play, ask for people to play with, and see what happens. If at first you don't succeed, try try again.

  • Game Specific Silver Gamertags - Many of the more popular games being played will have an XBL Silver account Gamertag associated with them. Ask around on TAG to see if there's a Silver gamertag associated with your favorite game, and add it to your friends list. This will give you a valuable tool to find who else is playing your favorite game when you want to be playing it as well.

  • TAG Chat - Live chat with other members of the site is also a good way to get to know people and get yourself known. Chat can be joined by clicking the 'Chat' link at the top of your screen. Anyone is welcome in chat at any time (unless you are a sponsored underage regular, for legal reasons). Please note that you have to have made 10 posts at TAG to access the chat feature and be a green regular. Even if nobody is there, hanging out for a little while is known to draw other people in. So join frequently. The most popular chat times are between 6am and 3pm EST Mon-Fri. However, the more people we get, the more varied the chat times will be. DISCLAIMER: Conversations in chat are (generally) unmoderated and can occasionally be quite adult in nature. However, no ill-will is ever intended and we encourage people to speak up if uncomfortable with any topic. Any complaints will be taken seriously and will be looked into. Our goal is to encourage an open, friendly atmosphere without having to police ourselves too strenuously. Most topics are allowable, but we will not tolerate personal attacks, discussion of illegal activit(ies) or out-right attacks against race, creed, gender or sexuality. Council and Mods reserve the right to restrict access to chat for any reason. Logs are kept for ALL communication in Chat. If you want to keep something private, do not post it in chat.

  • XBL and PSN friends lists - The more people you find and add, the more people you will find to add :). Getting yourself into games with fellow TAGers is one of the most important things you can do in order to become more visible on TAG. When it comes time to be up for full membership, fellow TAGians will be more likely to vote you in if they know you from the games they play. Even if you're a gamer that primarily sticks to single-player games, entering into party chats with fellow TAGers to just converse about that game (especially if they are playing it as well), can be a good way to get to know people.

  • Blogging - An under-utilized part of TAG. The blog section can help you get noticed as well. More people read them than post them, but if you're persistent you can use the blogs as a way to differentiate yourself from the casual posters. Of course, this kind of thing is dependent on how you use it. But if you're the type of person that likes to share, it's a great tool. Once a member you can post blogs. Right now you will only be able to read them.

So there are just some of the things that you can do to get yourself involved on TAG and get yourself addicted to a great new experience in Adult Gaming.

- Lastly, here are a few things you should know about the navigation of TAG:

  • The best way to keep up with new threads (and new content in general) is to use the "view new content" button, located in the top right area of the site. Once you click on this link, you can use the list on the left-hand side to customize your "new content" experience. Try experimenting with these choices in order to customize the site to your preference.

  • Down at the bottom of the custom options list is an option to customize your forum filters. This will allow you to customize forums that you would rather not see in your "new content" area. So if you do not wish to read about a certain specific gaming forum, for example, you can use this to lock it out.

  • The Portal is considered the "Main Page" of TAG. It is where any Game Nights or other news items will be displayed. It is still being worked on, however, so is in a bit of a Beta stage right now.

  • The Calender is also good to see when Members are holding game nights and other events. Members are encouraged to post their own events or game nights to be added to the calender.

  • XBox Live is a recent addition that allows you to synchronize your XBL account with TAG.

Hopefully the new people will find what they are looking for here, in terms of fellow gamers to connect with, and will become long-term, strong members of our Community.

There is far more information posted in various forums on TAG as well. Community Information is available in a few areas, so check out the forums and do a little reading.

Do not hesitate to contact TAG Council or myself at any time if you have questions or concerns. We are here to help, and to try and keep your experience on TAG as pleasant and fun as possible.

We look forward to seeing you all around for a long time. Please check your inbox shortly.

Enjoy TAG! :s1031:
